Find out more about the history of Cuckfield cricket club
The first reference to a match being played in Cuckfield probably played on what is now known as the "North Field", Cuckfield's second ground.
Most of the matches, over the next hundred years until 1854, were played on the Church Field (or Vicarage Field), an area to the south of the Church bounded to the west and south by Newbury Lane.
Ockenden, the "Spinning Field", was made available and the club immediately began to flourish once again.
The Club played its first match at Cuckfield Park on 3 May 1891 against St. Wilfred's Working Men's Club, using the North Field or Upper Park rather than the current ground.
The present main ground was built for the 1895 season by C.W. Sergison, with Montague Turner’s return helping to stabilise and shape the Club’s future.
